This is a 6" X 6" ceramic tile made by Herford Tile for Florian Tile in Saxmundham England in the late 60's or early 70's. It is based upon a limerick by Edward Lear (1812-1888) who was an artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet, known for his literary nonsense and also known for such poetry as "The Owl and the Pussycat".
This limerick goes
"There was an Old Person of Tring,
Who Embellished his nose with a ring;
He gazed at the moon, every evening in June,
That ecstatic Old Person of Tring."
This tile is in very good vintage condition and is a rare find in America. There is also another Lear tile in my shop if you are interested.

I bought two of these Edward Lear tiles from Mermaid Memoirs. The shipping was fast and very carefully done. Tiles arrived safely. I could not believe I found these tiles!! My dad has a bunch of them. I remember growing up with them so vividly. I can't wait to add to his collection this Christmas!
