This early 1900's resort brochure is in excellent condition! It is an advertisement for the Hotel Bret Harte build in 1917. It says that Grass Valley is a winter and summer resort in America's greatest Mining area. It brags that there are 100 rooms equipped with all the conveniences of the best houses on the Pacific Coast. Rooms are with and without private baths, and the cost is moderate ranging from $2 a day to $2.50 with a private bath. It tells the history of gold mining in the area and then talks about Bret Harte who came to CA with his widowed mother at age 15. After working many different jobs he became a writer, writing about the mining life in vivid, humorous observations.
The booklet is on very fine, thick paper 6.75" X 3.5" and is 4 pages.
